"We created a time capsule the day our daughter was born. When she turns 18, she'll open a whole world we captured just for her."
When Grace was born on a Tuesday morning in October 2024, her parents Claire and Tom decided to do something they'd always wished someone had done for them. That same evening, from the hospital room, they opened Everhere on Tom's phone and started building a time capsule — locked until Grace's 18th birthday.
They wrote down everything: the exact time she arrived (6:14am), her weight (7lb 3oz), and the hospital — the Royal Victoria, Newcastle. They noted the GPS coordinates of the ward. They recorded what was number one in the charts the week she was born, and scanned and uploaded the front page of that day's newspaper. They wrote about how her name was chosen — Grace, after Tom's late grandmother, with the middle name Ellie after Claire's best friend who had passed away two years earlier.
They included a photo of the three of them in the first hour. A voice note from Tom, still in his hospital scrubs, crying happy tears. A letter from Claire describing the exact feeling of the moment. And a message to Grace herself: the world she was born into, what they hoped for her, and how completely and utterly she had already changed everything.
"One day Grace will open this and see the world exactly as it was the day she arrived in it. She'll know her name's story, hear her dad crying with joy, and understand just how much she was wanted. That's the greatest gift we could ever give her."
— Claire, Grace's mum
